En décembre 1855, le bibliothécaire-adjoint du British Museum, Antonio Panizzi, indique au duc d’Aumale qu’un manuscrit exceptionnel est à vendre. Le duc se déplace en personne en Ligurie pour consulter l’ouvrage déposé dans un pensionnat de jeunes filles à Pegli et l’achète le 20 janvier 1856 pour la somme de 18 000 francs. Il le fait venir en Angleterre où il vit alors en exil.
En 1877, le livre intègre le Cabinet des livres rares du château de Chantilly et est rangé sous la cote 1284, dans l’armoire XVI, sur l’étagère D. Cette cote topographique est toujours inscrite sur la première garde.
In December 1855, the assistant librarian of the British Museum, Antonio Panizzi, indicated to the Duke of Aumale that an exceptional manuscript was for sale. The Duke went in person to Liguria to see the book placed on deposit at a boarding school for girls at Pegli and bought it on 20 January 1856 for 18,000 francs. He had it brought to England where he was living in exile.
In 1877, the book joined the Rare Book Cabinet of the Château of Chantilly and was shelved under call number 1284, cupboard XVI, shelf D. This topographic call number is written on the first flyleaf.
