Son armure dorée renvoie à celles des soldats de l’encadrement architectural peint par un des assistants de Jean Colombe. Les soldats adossés aux colonnes participent à la scène : un d’eux esquisse un geste de frayeur à l’arrivée de l’ange vengeur.
King David has withdrawn far from the city, to a grotto to atone for his fault.
His golden armour refers to that of the soldiers of the architectural frame painted by one of Jean Colombe’s assistants. The soldiers, their backs against the columns, participate in the scene : one of them makes a gesture of fear at the arrival of the avenging angel.
The scenes of the predella evoke King David’s battles. The last one repeats a composition used in the penitential Psalms (folio 66 verso).
