Dans le cantique, le roi juif Ézéchias remercie le prophète Isaïe de l’avoir guéri d’une grave maladie et fait référence aux souffrances de l’Enfer : « Je disais : au midi de mes jours, je m’en vais, aux portes du shéol, je serai gardé pour le reste de mes ans... » (Isaïe 38, 10).
Jean Colombe has painted a man still young, surrounded by rocks in flames. In the canticle, the Jewish king Hezekiah thanks the prophet Isaiah for healing him of a serious illness and refers to the sufferings of Hell : “I said : In the prime of my life. I shall go to the gates of Sheol ; I am deprived of the remainder of my years.” (Isaiah 38,10).
