Au lieu d’illustrer l’évangile du jour par la Transfiguration, Jean Colombe peint l’histoire de la Cananéenne, la Bible désignant ainsi une femme n’appartenant pas au peuple juif. La femme supplie par trois fois le Christ de guérir sa fille malade. Jean Colombe scinde l’histoire en deux scènes, celle de la supplication et celle de la bénédiction du Christ.
Instead of illustrating the gospel of the day with the Transfiguration, Jean Colombe has painted the story of the Canaanite Woman, the Bible describing in this way a woman who was not of the Jewish people. The woman beseeches Christ three times to heal her sick daughter. Jean Colombe has divided the story into two scenes, the supplication, and the blessing of Christ.
