Les spectateurs témoignent par des gestes de leur étonnement face au miracle. Les Limbourg placent la scène dans une loggia, ce qui permet de représenter un espace architectural ouvert. Le traitement de l’arrière-plan est purement ornemental et rappelle le décor de certains textiles.
The miniature relates to the gospel of the day (Luke 11,14). With a gesture of blessing, Christ banishes the demon that inhabits a young man whose expression, his dislocated pose, and ragged clothing terrify a child. The spectators’ gestures show their surprise at the miracle. The Limbourgs have placed the scene in a loggia, which allowed them to show an open architectural space. The treatment of the background is purely ornamental and recalls the decoration of some textiles.
