La scène forme le pendant de la Vierge à l’Enfant peinte quelques feuillets plus loin, au feuillet 191 verso : on les retrouve fréquemment face à face dans des manuscrits ou des petits tableaux de dévotion.
Shown inside a church, larger than life, Christ blesses the globe he holds in his hand. This orb symbolises Christ’s sovereignty over the world and is a manifestation of the unity of the tripartite divinity.
The scene forms a pendant to the Virgin and Child painted a few folios later, on the verso of folio 191 : they are often found opposite each other in manuscripts or small devotional paintings.
